Rob Koll, Shatterer of Penn State Legacies

Recommended Posts

This loss really, reaaally, hurts Ruth's legacy. He was looking at 3 consecutive undefeated season with only 2 losses, that would have put him extremely high on the list amongst the 3 timers (also 2 timer in the 3 year era). A freshman comes in and knocks him down a few notches. Historic loss right here.

Kudos to Koll but Damion Hahn must get most of the credit for this guy! Hahn is the best assistant in the country, hands down. Look at Cornell's production at the upper weights since he's joined. It's insane.
Cam Simaz has his fingerprints all over dean

If guys like Cisneros work out, this team will be a real championship threat beginning next year. Outstanding young talent. It's too bad about the perpetual Hvy situation
hahn gets the credit for this as well. I can't understand why a Minnesota guy can't recruit and/or develop hwt talent.

Historic loss right here.

Or just what was needed.

This is not necessarily and "either/or", it can be both. Even if Ruth turns it around at ncaas, it's still a historic loss. This overly dichotomous thinking has to stop.

Kyle Dake and Damion Hahn as coaches/practice partners have been pretty impressive so far. Cornell is quietly building a very good program.

yes Cornell has come out of nowhere, quietly building a decent little Ivy program. C'mon man...they are in the discussion for top 5/10 year in year out now, and have been for a while.

Koll also has also contributed to weakening (I prefer that to "shattering) some of Iowa's top wrestlers legacies as well.

Dake over St. John in the ncaa finals. St. John may have had 3 titles (assuming he wins this year) if it weren't for Dake.

Garrett over McDonough at ncaas last year. Another case of a freshman turning around an earlier season loss and beating a multiple time champion.

How about Leen over Poeta? Maybe this doen't fit as well as the others, but Koll was partly responsible for Poeta joining the "best to have never won it" list. Poeta was definitely one of the better wrestlers to not get the title.

Edit: Koll's also partly responsible for Nick Simmons being on the "best to never win it" list too. True freshman Nickerson defeated Simmons his junior year. Very bad loss for Simmons.

Was this as "Historic" as Steiber's win over Maple?

Good question. Hmmmm. Stieber's loss kind of devalues his win; that, and Maple's other losses. I can't say really. I can say that Stieber's loss was worse, imo, because a higher place in history was on the line.
