Looking for Tournament Sponsors

Recommended Posts

Dear Wrestling supporter,

The American Samoa Amateur Wrestling Association (ASAWA) has the honor of hosting the 2014 CADET, JUNIOR, SENIOR OCEANIA WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP (GR/FS/FW/BW) and the 2014 YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES OCEANIA QUALIFYING TOURNAMENT to be held on March 18 -22, 2014 in Pago Pago, American Samoa.

The Oceania Championships is one of five major Continental Wrestling Championships (ASIA, AFRICA, EUROPE, OCEANIA, PAN-AMERICA) held each year around the world prior to the World Wrestling Championships. The YOG Oceania Qualifying Tournament is one of only five major world Qualifiers for wrestling for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games. In particular, this will be the first time that American Samoa will host the Oceania Championships and will be only the second Oceania country to ever host the YOG Qualifiers for the Youth Olympic Games.

American Samoa earned the right to host this tournament through recent years of perseverance, hard work and successful results. In 2010 American Samoa qualified a wrestler to the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore and in 2012 American Samoa qualified a wrestler to the Olympic Games in London. In the past 5 years, American Samoa has proven itself to be one of the three dominate wrestling countries in Oceania, next Australia and New Zealand.

Unbeknownst to many, Samoans have dominated the world of sports for years with the world taking little notice. Albert "Al" Lolotai was the first Samoan and the first Polynesian to play in the National Football NFL, playing 5 seasons for the Washington Redskins in the 1940’s before he joined Professional/Entertainment Wrestling in 1950. Greg Louganis, adopted by Greek parents as an infant, went on to win 4 x Olympic Gold medals and 5 x World Gold Medals in his career with his most memorable dives being in the 1988 Olympics. 2013 NBA star Peyton Siva was drafted by the Detroit Pistons. The Rock, Dwayne Johnson, has been a sports icon in football and entertainment wrestling for years. The list of Samoan NFL players is long and continues to grow each year, from Pittsburg Steelers safety Troy Polamalu to San Francisco’s Mike Iupati. In 2010, CBS’s 60 Minutes reported that there were 30 Samoans in the NFL and "a boy born to Samoan parents is 56 times more likely to get into the NFL than any other kid in America." Despite American Samoa’s small population of less than 55k people, Samoans continue to excel and make a big impact in the world of sports.

In business, success comes from knowing more than your competitor and knowing when to get in on something before anyone else; In other words, knowing the next big thing before it happens. Having certain knowledge of something such as the inside scoop or insider information can give you huge advantages. In this case, understanding the impact Samoans have had on sports in the past and knowing the potential impact they will have on sports in the near future, is some good business insider information. In business, success also comes from good marketing and having a good product. In this case we have a great product (our raw talented athletes), and all that is left is your marketing.
