Double Digits Again??

Recommended Posts

It's going to be tough for Pa to hit double digits in the All American Categories so might be a chance for another state to knock us off this year for most AA's. From the latest Open Mat Rankings, here is what I have for guys ranked and how many I think we could expect to AA.

Top 20 aa

125: 2 1

133: 3 2

141: 8 3(very tough because we have so many kids, we will be knocking each other out of wb's)

149: 3 1

157: 2 1

165: 0)ouch) 0

174: 4(in top 12) predict 1 but hope for at least 2(see 141)

184: 4 2

197: 0

285 5 1(hoping Myers can make it 2)

That would put us at 11.

I'll take a stab at Ohio:

125: 2 0

133: 1 1

141: 3 1

149: 3 0

157: 2 1

165: 4 2 (3 in top 8, beg conservative though)

174: 2 0

184: 3 1

197: 1 1

285 2 0

By my count that would give Ohio a decent chance at having 7 AA's. Best case scenario is probably 11 or so AA's with guys on the border like Ryan Taylor, Pierce Harger, Cody Walters, Jeremy Johnson having a good tournament.

I'll throw together a Missouri list:

125: 0 (only one would have been Waters, on RS this season)

133: 2 (Brewer, Mango)

141: 0 (Lester MIGHT make R12 if he wrestles well at all)

149: 1 (Houdashelt)

157: 0 (Unless Kyle Bradley is allowed to return, then maybe one)

165: 0

174: 1 (Unlikely, but Doty could pull off a 7th-8th place finish potentially)

184: 0

197: 1 (Cox)

285: 0

Best case scenario: 5, not coming close to touching PA. Still, not too disappointed with this number all things considered.

Thought I'd take a shot at my neighbors to the east and north. Here is my thought on NJ>

Top 20 AA

125 1 0

133 1 0

141 0 0

149 2 1(Villalonga looking good, may be his year to shut up the doubters!)

157 3(top 6!) 3 hoping they don't knock each other out of the tournament.

165 0 0

174 0 0

184 0 0

197 0 0

hvy 1 1(hoping Lawson can sneak in there)

Wow, not looking to good for NJ again this year.

Pennsy,

It's been a brutal dry spell for old NJ. The past two years have produced the lowest number of AA's from NJ in a long, long time. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear this year will be much better. Many thoughts and theories but things have gone downhill quickly from the "glory days" of last decade. Some of it is cyclical and due to relatively weaker classes, but I don't think you can ignore the "AA" sinkhole that RU is. Many of the RU recruits of the past 4-5 years were historically Big10/EIWA/EWL recruits who went on to great collegiate careers. It would help if the state could get a little more production out of Rider as well. They don't normally get the top line recruits that RU gets, but their AA production has been a bit soft recently.

Pa. will get it's 10 plus again. NJ will have to wrestle with their hair on fire to reach 4-5 AA's...most likely scenario is a paltry 3 or 4.

I agree with your assessment. I think Ohio gets 8 AA's. Couple modifications to your counts though (I think). At 149 Ohio has 4 ranked wrestlers. At 197 there are 2 ranked Ohio wrestlers. And I'm only seeing two ranked wrestlers at 184.

On the bubble Ohio guys I think will AA: Max Thomusseit, Issac Jordan, and Pierce Harger.

I also think a healthy Zach Toal has a shot as well perhaps pushing Ohio into double digits.

Iowas year....

125- 2 (Peters,Gilman/Clark)

133- 1-Colon

141- nobody

149-1 Grothus

157-1 St John

165- 2, Moore +Moreno

174- 1 Weatherman

184- nobody

197- 1- Gadson

285- none

Potential for 9 Aas and I'd be surprised at less than 6. Pretty good chance at 4 champs too.
