How about this?

Recommended Posts

If you go out of bounds while riding a guy and you are both on your feet it is an escape.

I have suggested this before, except an escape would be awarded for any out-of-bounds. Puts the purpose for there even being a top guy and bottom guy on scoring or preventing back points, as opposed to scoring or preventing an escape.

I think how the two different objectives of the top man (preventing an escape, turning the opponent) are juxtaposed should be discussed.

To get backs you have to have a certain control of the opponent. I would argue that allowing an opponent to get out of bounds, or forcing the opponent out of bounds (because he has gotten to his feet), isn't the type of control from the top man that we should be looking for (or awarding with restarts and more riding time accumulation). CONTROL the opponent and turn him for backs.
