Flying-Tiger 617 Report post Posted March 23, 2014 English- True class act and a wonderful story what he went through. Cruz(unseeded)- Watched him all through HS, amazing skills. He is a very undersized 125 pounder and after getting teched by Nico in his first match, he comes back to get 7th while beating 3 ranked guys along the way. Always respectful even in his losses. Kindig- He had an amazing tourney and just came up short. By the way he was 7,2,1,1 in PA AAA states, lost to Oliver as a sophomore. Good call on Cruz. Undersized true freshman who took his lumps early; he would be much better suited for the old 118 weight class but still put together a heck of a run. LkwdSteve 142 Report post Posted March 23, 2014 How about Joey Dance? Who would have expected a top 4 finish? Yep. Also really pleased that Jeremy Johnson earned his 2nd AA in that stacked 285 field.
oldcougar 59 Report post Posted March 23, 2014 here are the brackets from the following season (JO, Senior; Kindig, Soph) 2008 (JO, Sr; Kindig, So @ 130) Districts: http://district11.piaa.org/tournaments/ ... ackets.pdf Regionals: http://district11.piaa.org/tournaments/ ... 030108.pdf States: http://www.piaa.org/assets/web/document ... A_Brax.pdf those district brackets from 2008 are interesting. three NCAA finalists - Besides Josh Kindig and Jordan Oliver, Jimmy Sheptock won that year at 152. And Zack Horan at 106 was an NCAA qualifier this year. plus a couple other kids who ended up as PIAA state champs. District 11 was pretty tough ---- back then. and if you look at the state brackets at 103 you have future Penn wrestler Mark Rappo knocking off Nico Megaludis and Zach Horan back-to-back. It was Nico's only loss in high school. I guess this could get old pretty fast, but it's fun looking at these old brackets. James English beat Jimmy Vollrath in wrestle backs that year, placing 3rd. Mike Evans placed 3rd. Q Wright won, Steve Bosak placed 2nd. Ed Ruth placed 4th.
mat_savy 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2014 Steve Dutton. Always seems to fly under the radar, even in this thread. For all the unfair crap he's received on this board, Gajales as well. Glad to see him end his collegiate career like that. EDIT: How could I forget James English. What a storybook ending to his year. I think both he and Joey Dance should be awarded co-recipients of the Dustin Minotti award for 2014.

Threadkilla 101 Report post Posted March 23, 2014 Anthony Perrotti (8th place at 157) of Rutgers was the 8th seed at EIWA's. Considering all the studs that Rutgers was bringing in for a while, with high expectations. This kid comes out of nowhere to be their first AA in 12 years. ncbrowns 2 Report post Posted March 23, 2014 Chris Penny (6th at 197), r-Sr from Virginia Tech. Started his career with a 3-16 record as a true freshman, and made the semis at the NCAA tournament as a senior. Too bad he messed up his shoulder against Gadson and couldn't go in the 5th place match.
