Caldwell v Taylor

Recommended Posts

Has Caldwell ever tried to actually score on Taylor?

3 passivity calls - resulting in 2 pts when he doesn't try anything in two 30 second windows.

Taylor with a Td. Wins 4-0.

Not getting Caldwell's approach. Guess he is getting better at blocking off Taylor?

Definitely surprised by his lack of offensive attempts. Being with Okie State - offensive minded coaching certainly is not the problem. BUT - sometimes wrestling great wrestlers can make us look like we are not trying when we actually are.

Caldwell has never looked like an offensive wrestler.

Fair, but. You've got to try something when you are losing. Just not getting it.

Agreed... The stall early, score late approach is a time tested one for upsets (ie Marable vs Burroughs) but continuing to stall at the end when losing makes no sense. Same thing happened in the NCAA finals. At least lock up a throw from that tie up.

...........and, im going to go out on a limb here.....

burroughs didnt impress me today in his matches....

just saying, david will wrestle him differently than he did caldwell.

burroughs wont tie david up, but he would if he were smart

In his interview after the match, Taylor said it's the sixth time he's wrestled Caldwell:

1) David Taylor maj Tyler Caldwell (Oklahoma State) 10-0

2) David Taylor maj Tyler Caldwell (Oklahoma State) 9-1

3) David Taylor dec Tyler Caldwell (Oklahoma State) 5-2

4) David Taylor dec Tyler Caldwell (Oklahoma State) 6-0

5) David Taylor NLWC 4-0 Tyler Caldwell (Sunkist Kids) 4-0

Where and when was the sixth match? Also, based on these results, Tyler needs to change his game plan. Go up or down a weight, switch to MMA or Greco, or just completely revamp his style and start putting up points. There is no way he's ever going to beat David wrestling the way he does now, it's just never going to happen.

JB will do what he does, but what's Taylor's game plan? Conventional wisdom says to slow things down, work the ties and try and score from there but that's the exact opposite of Taylor's usual strategy. Could be one for the ages if both throw caution to the winds.

well....my advice to david would be to push the action...

take chances....take shots.....make jordan actually be put on the defensive

for once.

at least with this strategy tonite, if it doesnt work then adjust for the team trials,

but at least go at him for tonite.

if jordan cant get his left leg positioned for his low often crawling double leg

attempt..... well, i havent seen him get any other sort of takedown except a

slide by on a bad shot.

Burroughs has a lot more than doubles. He has sweep and low singles to each side, as well as the nastiest snapdown-spin behind series in the world right now. He makes it look so effortless when he snaps you down and spins to either side, either to get the two immediately or to secure a single which he converts 99% of the time.

He also has that instant reshot that makes him the most dangerous guy in the world to shoot against.

I don't expect it to be close, again.

Burrough's reshot is his biggest asset.
