Unscored on at Olympics/Worlds

Recommended Posts

Those long time fans in the US generally know Danny Gable went unscored on during the 1972 Olympics.

How many other Olympic and/or World Champs have done so?

I know a number have done it, just looking for more information on them.

Any done it in more than one Olympic or World championship?

Karelin did it several times. Wantanabe did as well if the stories are true.

Recently Aliyev and Khustov did it in Greco. This was during the defense point era which means every time they were in forced par terre they scored. Taymazov did it at the last Olympics.

Karelin is the only one to do it multiple times that I know of. He did it four times! Yarigan did it only once along with Gable. Watabe is a question mark-they say he did it many years but there are alot of inconsistent historical statements with him. I would agree that he did it twice though.

How is this possible? Define offensive point please. I seem to remember him scoring on gut wrenches.

Scoring only in mandatory clinch position. He scored 2 gut wrenches the entire tournament during ball grabs, and won every match with winning the ball grab and defending.
