Edinboro vs. Pitt

Recommended Posts

BTW, the true freshman who Mines lost to? He wasn't even a state qualifier his senior year, finishing 4th at the WPIAL AAA Championships (aka Southwest Regional) at 126 pounds, one spot out of where he needed to be to qualify.

1st- 126 Dalton Macri, Canon-McMillan dec. Sam Krivus, Hempfield

3rd- 126 A.C. Headlee, Waynesburg dec. Dom Forys, North Allegheny

4 quality guys in that weight, only 3 could qualify for states . . .

Pitt is great dual meet team-we all know that.  This is pretty early season--Boro primes for March.  This outcome actually doesn't surprise me.  Flynn will work them and have them ready when it really counts.

Enough of the it doesn't matter until March.  They both put out their best teams and Pitt won.  They don't wrestle each other in March.  This was a dual and both teams should have been up for it considering their history in EWL.

Mines losing to a true freshment, their 74 losing to a backup, heavyweight getting pinned, certainly didn't see those coming. Sounds like this was a great dual, great win for Pitt. I'm sure this win will give them a lot of confidence going into that Penn St dual in a couple weeks, which could be very interesting...

Pitt heavy John Rizzo is a 3x PA state champ.  Twice won 285, then for his SR year dropped down to 220 just to see if he could do it.  Mission accomplished, had over 30 pins and only one loss all year, 2-1 to Kyle Snyder.  Beat the returning champ by 10 pts in the state finals, and it was not that close.  Then he beat now-Stanford heavy Josh Marchok at Dapper Dan.

He was a tremendous D1 285 prospect, except he took 1.5 years off to play football at Temple.  He transferred to Pitt in January specifically for wrestling.  If he's back to form -- and it sure looks like he is -- he will be a monster.  Has RS SO eligibility.

Thanks for the info on Rizzo. I thought the name was familiar but couldn't remember him, if he's been out of wrestling a while that might explain it. Certainly makes their lineup that much tougher with him in there! Anyone have any inside info on Bright and Wilps, when we can expect to see them back in the lineup? Would love to see this team full strength vs PSU
