Brutus81 4 Report post Posted February 8, 2015 Watching on BTN this weekend. Heckler from Wisconsin was okay. Heckler from Maryland, destroyed the whole BTN broadcast. Couldn't even listen with his constant interjections. Bottom line -- this isn't fan flavor. Ban these guys.

tigerstyle4life 6 Report post Posted February 8, 2015 I personally having seen Ficker live in action thought it was funny. There is nothing wrong with it, as you see it in ever sport except maybe golf
BigApple 86 Report post Posted February 8, 2015 You've obviously never been to the 16th hole at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. There is a group that is from Minnesota that has complete files on every golfer. If you've never been tona golf tournament go to this one, especially on Friday, when the college scenery is there, then to the "Bird's Nest" afterwards. They've had almost 200,000 in attendance on a single day. The brst heckling i remember was an old lady who attended OU matches who would heckle the referee. He slipped the"finger" upside along his head, and she caught him and heckled him even more.

stp 547 Report post Posted February 8, 2015 (edited) The heckler cheering for UW is loudest when his son is on the mat and has been yelling comments ever since he was a head/assist HS wrestling coach. Compare comments what was heard and Ficker is nowhere as insulting as what the UW fan yells. Edited February 8, 2015 by stp
stp 547 Report post Posted February 8, 2015 This guy’s like my horse! He’s in a stall! Ref, you’re counting too fast! That wasn’t two, that was like 1.3. He’s got his shoes taped on because they might fall off! Hey ref, don’t let these Iowa coaches on the mat. They’ll come after you. Referee! Don’t let that Iowa coach tell you what to do! You’re objective! He’s not. Don’t let him influence you referee! ^Awesome!

A friend of mine lives in Scottsdale, and we'd go to the Phoenix Open and Barrett-Jackson car auction when I would come out to visit. One year he was at the golf tournament (I wasn't), and he camped out at 16. Tiger came through with a young rookie who nervously walked up to tee off. The crowd was buzzing. He put the ball three feet from the hole. They went nuts. Tiger stepped up, and, with huge applause, teed the ball up. He got a hole in one. As Tiger and his group walked away, a rain of beer followed, all coming from the cups thrown in the air after the ace. My friend said it was absolutely crazy. MPICK 4 Report post Posted February 8, 2015 I was at matches 4 times the last 2 years when Ficker was present. Most the time he is just funny but one meet he went a little to far. At the national duals at Mizzou he was all over the place. Going from 1 seat to another and got very rude in his remarks. He actually came up with something like this. Reel him in he is just a Fish and I will help you pin him. I have also seen him at the NCAAs bribe kids near the front row with money and such so he can have there seats for a few bouts to be near the Marylands wreslers mat. Like has been said before he is mostly just funny but sometimes takes it to far. At Mizzou he was so bad if I were the AD he would have been escorted out because he was so rude. Chrissn2001 80 Report post Posted February 8, 2015 Being at the match on Friday, the Ficker experience was interesting. It would be a little more legit, if the Terps were as feisty as he is. Did you catch the comment Brands made about Ficker wearing Iowa shorts? Very funny. And Gilman shushing him after his match? TG building his rep. as college wrestling's bad boy. Jefe 8 Report post Posted February 8, 2015 Complaining about Ficker is pointless. He's a major donor to Maryland athletics, which is severely in debt ... they had about 80 million reasons to switch conferences. He's not going away. BTN could move microphone locations to make the broadcasts a little easier, though even that may not help much with Ficker's booming voice and only about 50 other fans to drown him out. carp 58 Report post Posted February 8, 2015 I don't see anything wrong with Ficker's chants/comments as they are captured in the blog. Most of it is petty funny and some is rather highbrow. Easy to be approving of Ficker until the point in the match when, in his migrating from seat to seat, he comes and sits next to you Then it's not so much fun. He's a boorish idiot, and I can't wait until he shows up with his act at Carver Hawkeye.
lu_alum 794 Report post Posted February 9, 2015 ... I have also seen him at the NCAAs bribe kids near the front row with money and such so he can have there seats for a few bouts to be near the Marylands wreslers mat. ... Doesn't sound like bribery to me. I would either call it subletting or renting the seats. Capitalism at its finest. The kids managed to make a few bucks. Not much different than what I do for the line to buy a program or bracket updates at NCAAs... find a kid at the front of the line and tell him I'll pay for his program if he buys mine. much better than waiting in line for 10-15 minutes on day one of the tourney. headshuck 2,310 Report post Posted February 9, 2015 (edited) Wasn't he ON the Maryland bench today during the dual with Minnesota or were those fans on the edge of the mat? If he's not careful he's going to poke a wrestlers eye out with his huge flag. Edited February 9, 2015 by headshuck
Jaroslav Hasek 1,902 Report post Posted February 9, 2015 one of Ficker's comments that confused me was duing "Steam Rolla" Mascola's matches. he asks the other team if they had any bumps in their driveway because Steam Rolla Mascola would flatten them out for your. thats not heckling thats just offering to do a favor. so weird. i do get a good laugh when he encourages a UMD wrestlers by saying "you're stronger, and you have better tattoos."
