Pinnum 840 Report post Posted December 3, 2012 With Zanetta wrestling so well in red-shirt and the upsets in early season wrestle-offs (Steiber and Mangrum), who are the best red-shirts or backups this year? The guys that are banging heads in the room and performing well at outside competition but probably won't be going to a conference championship. silver-medal 670 Report post Posted December 3, 2012 A lot of Penn State guys---Guilbon, Vollrath, Lawson, McIntosh...I know there's a few more. Paddock and DiJulius for Ohio State. My guess is that you'll soon see Magrum in at 184. Kindig for Okie State. Ian Miller and Tyler Small for Kent (although Miller is not yet wrestling like he did last season). LemonPie 1,368 Report post Posted December 3, 2012 Also Zane Richards from Illinois has looked good in the opens. Ive also been impressed with Brunson, Rodrigues, Morse (at 165), and even Lopez. Anxious to see how Reyes develops too

LemonPie 1,368 Report post Posted December 3, 2012 Friedley and Tsirtsis at Northwestern I didn't think they had been competing. Results?
HenDog 1 Report post Posted December 3, 2012 Not Sure about Friedley but Tsirtsis won Wisc open this weekend with 3 pins, 1 tech and 9-3 win in the finals. I heard he beat Oster 9-2 in the wrestle off but have not seen that result posted anywhere. Oster wrestled 141 this weekend in the duals for NW as did Greco. Oster beat Greco in an open tournament earlier in the year. Oster finished second to Cobb in OT.

Bville-Bud 0 Report post Posted December 4, 2012 Seems like Devin Carter would be a great candidate. He just won the Penn State Open at 141.

lotrz 0 Report post Posted December 4, 2012 Someone already mentioned S Rodriques who trained with Brian for years. Steve isn't yet in the class of the others who have been mentioned, but he is having a very busy and productive beginning ( 26-4 ). cya
Holtfan 83 Report post Posted December 4, 2012 Connor Youtsey - Michigan, 125 - BackupDefeated Nicco Triggas (OSU) twice in the same weekend, 4-2 and 2-0, at a time when Triggas was ranked #5 (now #15). Youtsey is behind Sean Boyle, who defeated him 6-2 in the intersquad to earn the starting spot.
tec87 349 Report post Posted December 5, 2012 Zach Horan-CMU. Round of 12 last year at 133 and backup to 2xAA #2 Scotti Sentes. Horan beat Sentes I believe 6-1 in their intrasquad match.
RhinoWrestler 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2012 Wrestlers redshirting this year for Oklahoma: 125lbs - Jarrod Patterson (All-American) 165lbs/174lbs - Andrew Howe (National Champion) 184lbs - Travis Rutt (All-American) Noticed Clark Glass at 165lbs has done real well as redshirt freshman for Oklahoma. Placed high at a few opens.
Tofurky 622 Report post Posted December 5, 2012 Gotta go with Tsirtsis on this one, since his health isn't as suspect as Howe's at the moment. Watched T-shirts last weekend own last year's 125 lbs. DIII runner-up Fitzenrider 9-3 in the finals, as well as all three guys preceding him. He was head and shoulders the best guy at a JuCo/DIII/DII tournament, but he never stops moving... never.
