Coaches,

I’d like to draw your attention to the 2015 Escape the Rock Wrestling Tournament, which has quickly grown into one of the premier, in-season high school events in the country. It will take place on Saturday & Sunday, January 16 & 17, 2016 at Council Rock South High School in Holland, PA. This is an individual, double elimination tournament with full wrestle backs.

Te Escape the Rock Board of Directors is proud of the many great elements that make up ETR. In regards to the quality of competition, here is what we had this year:

173 State qualifiers - an average nearly 13 per bracket

114 State or National Prep place winners – an average of over 8 per bracket

19 State Champions

Teams from 7 states including:

13 teams in the top 20 at the PA State tournaments (AAA & AA)

2 NJ Group State Championship Finalists - 1 Champion

DE Team State Champion

3 teams in the top 5 at the VA 6A Teams, 3 others top 5 at VA 1A-5A

4 teams in the top 17 at National Preps

31 full teams, plus partial team entries - 425 wrestlers, average 30 per bracket

FLOWRESTLING coverage, with live streaming of every bout of the tournament

Renowned Hospitality Room

Plenty of available rooms at our host hotel, which has full amenities (restaurant, bar, gym, etc)

As per current PIAA rules, it will count as 3 competition points. Team score will be kept, with awards going to the top three. We will recognize the top eight wrestlers in each weight class with awards, including a custom Championship Belt for the winner of each weight class. We will be giving out an “Outstanding Wrestler” award, along with a “Most Falls” award.

In order to set the field, our tournament committee has been, and will be, in contact with top level teams from across the country. We have set a deadline of March 29 for teams to indicate their desire to compete at ETR in 2016. If you wish to compete, send me an email at wrestleETR@gmail.com by March 29. Please list the names and credentials of your returning wrestlers, include any high level incoming freshman/transfers. We plan to have the field set around April 1st.

I'm paraphrasing, but I recently heard Bill Zadick discussing weight cutting with a very talented high school wrestler. "Every moment you're in the wrestling room cutting weight is a moment you could've been working on technique and getting better," said Zadick. "Wrestling isn't fun if you're sucked out trying to lose weight. There is no enjoyment in cutting weight. You're too young for wrestling to feel like it's a job you hate. Enjoy wrestling. Wrestling is fun."
