Cost of Attendance

Recommended Posts

I was just reading my Northern Illinois University alumni magazine and an article with the director of athletics, Sean Frazier. In the piece, Frazier mentions how NIU is going to follow the "Power 5" conferences and go to a Cost of Attendance plan. (http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/12185230/power-5-conferences-pass-cost-attendance-measure-ncaa-autonomy-begins - read this article for more information about CoA measures) According to the NIU DoA, will cost Northern "a commitment of a minimum of $800,000 annually in scholarship costs." That is a staggering amount of money, and NIU isn't much of a big name on the DI level when it comes to sports. Read the reason behind Boston College being the lone dissenting vote here, fifth paragraph:

With NIU's wrestling team perpetually in the proverbial toilet, as well as many other programs across the spectrum, I have to wonder the impact this sort of thing is going to have on wrestling programs that aren't top-flight DI contenders. Thoughts?
