2015 us open

Recommended Posts

just noticed the us open this year is being held at the south point casino....the equestrian center.    why ????????????????????????      the convention center is spectacular !!   why in the world would they move it ?      how are they going to get 25 plus mats in the equestrian arena ?     it is a large oval with seating......  ugh.....i think it will be a disaster.

....and you have to drive there....no walking from the numerous hotels in the las vegas central area :(

they have had it at the convention center for as long as i can remember......cant believe larry let it go because of not booking it in time.  got to be another reason.    it will be totally abysmal at south point.......totally abysmal

National Hardware Show is there ... draws 30k attendees. Convention Center doesn't come cheap. The open itself doesn't need 20-something mats, all the ancillary events are what use them.

I have no insight into why, but perhaps our NGB got tired of losing their @ss when it came to money on the venue? I was just in Vegas for NMX and the NAB Show ... I stayed downtown and cabbed it everywhere pretty cheaply.

Pretty much no one showed up when it was in Cleveland for that two year stretch.

You know, that hotbed that's driving distance for a big part of the wrestling fanbase.

Outside of a handful of duals in Iowa City, Minneapolis and State College, our sports' fanbase attends one event a year.

Everyone wanted the Open back in Vegas ... and attendance still hasn't been great.

I'm going to both.  Only other place that would get me to both are PHL and NYC and this is just b/c they are so close to where I live.  Vegas is the only place that would get me to fly to both events.

Helps that we have a 2nd home in Vegas, but even if we didn't, I would still go to both if held in Vegas.

Great change! South Point is a great place. Attended last year at Convention Center and was very disappointed from a fan stand point! No quality seating, hard to follow matches, too many concurrent tournaments, and could not even get close seeing the big matches because so many were standing around the mat. USA Wrestling needs to do a much better job of taking care of the FANS and show casing major events. The Open is essentially treated as a qualifier for the World Trails in Freestyle not a major event in its own by USA Wrestling, my opinion. If the change of venue and USA Wrestling does make this a FAN FRIENDLY event, I will make it an annual event on my schedule. I prefer this tournament to the NCAA's when it is presented correctly with the FANS considered important!

the venue here is MUCH better than the old (LV Hilton) one.

i too was concerned with the change.

but i'm here now and i think it will be much better and certainly more fan friendly.

the only real positive at the LV Hilton was the open space, which didn't make for much of an experience.

i'm enjoying it at South Point.

Really enjoyed Christian's and Willie's discussion on Flo radio # 34 about Pico not entering the Sr. level this year.

Of course, I'm not privy to the Pico camp's decision on this, but I totally agreed with CP's opinion. Nonetheless, still a huge fan of Aaron Pico.

I'm just guessing that although he was set to enter the sr tournament, Zadick and Slay probably talked to his camp about getting more experience at Jr Worlds.

I have a good source that tells me that Slay was not involved in the decision about Pico going Juniors and he was too guessing why Aaron went down.
